Ani Difranco
Angela Maria Ani DiFranco is an American Canadian singer and songwriter. She has released more than 20 studio albums. Her songs are classified by the label as folk and alternative rock. They also have influences from hip hop music, jazz and punk. Ani DiFranco was among the first artist to establish her own record label in 1990. Ani is widely considered as a feminist icons. DiFranco was born on 23rd September 1970, in Buffalo New York. Her parents were Elizabeth (Ross), from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Dante Americo DiFranco. Her father is Italian descent, and her mother comes from Montreal. Her song 32 Flavors was composed by her and is performed by Ani. The song was featured on her 5th studio album Not a Pretty Girl which was released in 1995. Another version of the track is included on the movie soundtrack of 1999's Canadian romantic comedy Better Than Chocolate. In 2013 DiFranco apologized when it was announced that she would be hosting the three-day event on a former Louisiana plantation for slaves. Even though she canceled the event several participants (including the authors of our article) didn't feel any guilt. DiFranco apologized for her mistake a couple of days afterwards. While she is known by the name of Little Peoplesinger, she's been in contact with a myriad of musicians and artists, from Pete Seeger through Chuck D all the way to Prince. New Orleans is her home. Ani was born Kristen Ford. She started writing songs around the age of 14. She performed them at bars and coffee shops throughout her teens. DiFranco was a graduate of The Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts high school in the year 16 and began attending courses at Buffalo State College. There she lives with her husband, kids and her long-legged pet Lefty.
